History

China Water Resources Beifang Investigation, Design, and Research Co. Ltd is a Class A scientific investigation, design, and research institute in China. Its historical evolution is as below:

March 8, 1954, some staff of the Investigation and Design Bureau under the Ministry of Water Resources were re-allocated to establish an Investigation and Design Institute under the Ministry of Water Resources, with its seat in Beijing.

August, 1954, Beijing Hydropower Investigation and Design Institute under the late Ministry of Fuel Industry was established, which was later affiliated to the Ministry of Electricity from 1956 on.   

March, 1958, the Investigation and Design Institute under the Ministry of Water Resources and Beijing Hydropower Investigation and Design Institute were merged to form Beijing Investigation and Design Institute under the late Ministry of Hydropower and Electricity (Beijing Institute for short).

April, 1964, Haihe River Basin Investigation and Design Institute  (Haihe Institute for short) under the Ministry of Water Resources was established.

1970, in the context of a political campaign, staff of Beijing Institute and Haihe Institute were sent off to No. 11 Construction Bureau and No.13 Construction Bureau under the Ministry of Water Conservancy and Electricity. 

March, 1979,  in order to implement South-to-North Water Diversion Project and to make better use of water resources in North China, the Ministry of Water Resources decided to form Tianjin Investigation, Design and Research Institute (Tianjin Institute for short), with the personnel coming from No.11 Construction Bureau and No.13 Construction Bureau. 

January, 2003, China Water Resources Beifang Investigation, Design, and Research Co. Ltd. was incorporated from Tianjin Investigation, Design, and Research Institute, an institution affiliated to the Ministry of Water Resources. It has three controlling shareholders, e.g. Water Resources and Hydropower Planning and Design General Institute, Haihe River Water Conservancy Commission, and Xinhua Water Resources Investment Holding Company.
